SOULFEST 2014

What an amazing day Sydney experienced at the first ever #SOULFEST #2014 (one of the biggest soul line ups in the world ever (53 Grammy nominations between them). The line-up included: #DANGELO, #MAXWELL,  #MOSDEF, #COMMON, #ALOEBLACC, #ANGIESTONE, #LEELAJAMES, #MUSIQSOULCHILD, & #ANTHONYHAMILTON.

I was completely honoured, humbled (and extremely lucky) to get the call for support DJing duties as #SOULOFSYDNEYDJS with #SOULOFSYDNEY cofounder DJ PHIL TOKE. A day which I will never forget.

Needless to say this was an extra special occasion for me playing between the sets of the acts I grew up listening to, and still admire today. Along with the all-star international line-up were and a gang of Australia’s leading soul talent.

Straight off a 17 hour plane leg journey Coron via Manila to soundcheck at 10am in Victoria Park.

ANTHONY HAMILTON (I used to have his ‘I will go” track from New York Undercover on repeat in the late 90’s!)

ALOE BLACC ( Motown era soul, pitch perfect performance)

PHIL TOKE (Bringing some funk heat to Soulfest)

Ayo sound man! Where’s my monitor?! Propped up on the Spotify stage where all the local acts did Sydney proud.

With DJ TREY before a quick changeover, my man rocked it (cheeky bastard dropped Brown Sugar right after D’Angelo’s set – gotta give the people what they want)!

D’ANGELO (there is only one. Was getting emotional seeing him live. Real Artist, Real Musician – this was my performance highlight).
