Big Love to everyone who has supported, encouraged, helped, and guided me in my DJ journey. It’s a cool lil milestone which made think to share a story I’ve never told before (below) …
8K followers on Soundcloud .. whoop! I’d kind of given up on it after i had my original account deleted so i’m pleased i’ve been able to build it up again.
I bought my first DJ set up just less than 10 years ago. I told no one for 2 years, locked myself up in a room, practiced for hours on end after work, on weekends, every spare moment I had. I sucked but I was hooked (see swipe to see forum photo). I said to myself maybe 5-7 years after I start I might be able to play out sometime. Time flys man.
Over the last 10 years, I’ve met so many cool people since I began and had some amazing opportunities come my way. It’s been incredible. It wasn’t always easy, I didn’t start in my teens like most DJs. I’ve crashed and burned hundreds of times, been laughed at, failed epically, doubt myself always, had crazy anxiety, but I’ve never stopped or turned down a gig because i “wasn’t ready” or “good enough”. I was never afraid to fail or take a risk doing this thing I love.
By no means do I consider myself an amazing DJ compared to many of my peers, but I am blessed to have made it this far, and I’ve still got plenty to learn. I hope I’m lucky enough to do this till the day I die (even if it’s back where I started, in my room, playing music I love, to nobody).
If anyone reading this thinks they are too old to learn something new, change paths or take on a new challenge – the only thing i would say to you is……. Just start and enjoy the journey. Don’t do it want to be the best (@….), start because it’s something you’ve always wanted to do and that passion will bring you joy. I promise.
