Canberra’s Brass Knuckle Brass Band has just released an album, which is an excellent excuse to drive some noise a few hours up the Hume. Supported by some of Sydney’s freshest and finest, this gig will be just how we like ’em – late, loud and free.

The Brass Knuckle Brass Band
Brass Knuckle Brass Band is a sweaty late-night party for anyone who knows a sousaphone will always be tougher than a bass guitar. Think whiskey dripping from trombone spit-valves; drummers with callouses on their callouses. Think a crusty bari sax belting from the gutter and you’re starting to get the idea.

First thrown together for a one-off Wednesday night show, BKBB has opened for funk heavyweights Charles Bradley and Fred Wesley, and played at Falls Festival and Woodford Folk Festival. Following a debut EP in 2013, the band collaborated with hip-hop young gun Citizen Kay on the single “Raise a Glass”, which became a Triple J favourite. BKBB has just released the album Split Lip, featuring a bunch of punch-in-the-throat instrumentals amongst raw vocal cuts from the likes of Sarsha Simone (formerly Roxy Ray of Dojo Cuts), Kira Puru (Kira Puru and the Bruise) and James Grim (Brothers Grim and the Blue Murders).

Yum Yum
A chance meeting and an exchange of beats on USB gave birth to this super-dope Sydney outfit featuring singer Natalie Slade and producer Jayo. Inspired by soul, hip-hop, delta blues and dub, in a single year Yum Yum has dropped an excellent EP and supported Tall Black Guy (US), Bankrupt Billionaires (UK) and emcee Hau (Triple J Hip-hop Show).

DJ CMAN
Combining dynamic skills, music knowledge and technical ability, DJ CMAN blends old and new, popular and obscure. Equally at home in a mainstream club or as part of Sydney’s thriving underground music scene, CMAN is an original and main stay DJ at the now nationally acclaimed ‘Soul of Sydney Block Parties’ (recently featured as Time Out Sydney’s best outdoor parties) and a current member of ‘Soul of Sydney DJs’. CMAN is also Sydney’s ‘go-to’ support DJ for international acts, and has opened for D’Angelo, Maxwell, Roy Ayers, Common, Mos Def and Angie Stone.
